5 Goals for the New Year

Hello everyone. It truly has been a long time since I checked in last. Life got wild (I take on too many responsibilities, but we'll get into that later) and I had to, unfortunately, prioritize my creative endeavors to the bottom of my to-do list. But I am home for two months because I am not taking a J-Term and keep finding myself with ample free time. And Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube are just not cutting it. So I am getting back into the swing of blogging (hopefully). Speaking of goals (not really at all speaking of goals), I have 5 goals for 2019 and thought it would be helpful for me, and perhaps y'all, for me to share them.

Before I get around to listing them, I find setting goals instead of making resolutions works better for me because I am less likely to beat myself up when reaching towards a goal than when I am attempting to stay strict to a new resolution. I also have learned that crafting a smaller list leaves time for all of the goals to be done with care and done well rather than hurried (aka books not being read well, or my workouts being weak). That being said, here are my goals for 2019:

1. Read 25 books

Now this goal is a little ambitious for me because I typically start my year off strong in terms of reading books for fun and then my energy fizzles. Reading never fails to make me happy, so its absence does more hurt than good. I'm hoping I can read at least two books a month (and, yes, I will count the books I am reading for my Young Adult Literature class).

2. Workout three times a week

This goal is kind of a given due to my involvement in rugby and our having practice 3-5 times a week and working at a summer camp that is a workout in itself. But, when I am off-season for rugby and home I rarely find myself working out due to the lack of accessibility to diverse workout options. But I recently got a membership to Rochester's Mayo Clinic employee gym (my dad works there) and intend to capitalize on the amenities there.

3. Get 200 listeners on my podcast And That's The Coffee, Brother

As some of you may or may not know, I co-host a podcast with one of my best friends Molly. We started it for fun, but it has developed into a passion-project for both of us. And we have fun news: you can find us on Spotify now! Just search "And That's The Coffee, Brother". We are also running a GoFundMe campaign right now to buy microphones and develop the professional-ness of the show. If you want to contribute or learn more about that click here.

4. Donate clothes I do not actively wear

I have sold my unused clothes in the past on apps and sites like Mercari, Depop, and Poshmark, and as nice as it is to have extra money to supplement being a broke college student, it takes a little too much work and time to work in my schedule. So I'm hoping to spend the next month or so deep-cleaning my closet and giving my clothes to Savers and/or Goodwill.

5. Enjoy my last "regular" semesters of college

Believe it or not, I will be done with "regular" (aka not student teaching) at the end of 2019. I, honestly, cannot believe it. And those who spend time around me know that I say "it's crazy to think that in two years I might have my very own classroom" about three to one hundred times a day. Student teaching is pretty much a job in itself and varies greatly from the classes I have grown used to. So, I am hoping to enjoy the time I have left in "regular" classes.

And with that I wish you a happy and healthy 2019!
